Tempered Glass
This glass is heated to a temperature near its softening point, then cooled rapidly with air. This process makes fully tempered glass four times stronger than ordinary annealed glass & significantly increases its resistance to thermal and impact stress. A unique safety characteristic of tempered glass is that when it breaks it fractures into small relatively harmless fragments and greatly reduces the likelihood of injury because there are no jagged edges or shards.
